The story behind Life + Lens Blog:
Lisa and Rachel are fellow photographers (of lisa d. photography and [en]frame photography by rachel boyer respectively ) and have been friends since elementary school. Both Lisa, with a background in childhood education, and Rachel with a background in social work with children and families, approach their photography with an eye for documenting and celebrating relationships and connection. Lisa and Rachel share a strong commitment to family and a belief in honoring families of all kinds.
Over the years, Lisa and Rachel would meet to discuss photography, brainstorm upcoming sessions, and chat about life in general. Their years of friendship also included celebrating many of life’s milestones together – from birthday parties to bat mitzvahs; from holidays to weddings and baby showers. Lisa and Rachel have often looked to each other for support not only in life but also in their photography endeavors. When Lisa was looking for a website to submit some of her family photography work, she noticed a significant lack of sites showcasing family photography that also served as a resource for families as well as photographers. That’s when Life + Lens was born. Lisa met with Rachel to share her idea and the concept of creating a space for highlighting fabulous family photography and ALSO for celebrating families and family milestones in all their forms began to take shape. We decided this would not just be a place for photographers, but a resource for family and photography inspiration — where we will share session inspiration, fashion tips for photo sessions, holiday and milestone celebration ideas, social issues related to families and so much more.
About the Photographers:
Hi! I’m Lisa D. Flader of Lisa d. Photography in Phoenix, AZ. As long as I can remember, I’ve loved photographs. From my grandmother’s old black and white ancestors in a drawer to the $10 my mom would pay me as a kid to fill our family albums chronologically. Photography has always captured my heart and my eye. My true passion is photographing families and children and preserving those precious memories for years to come. I draw my inspiration from the empathic part of my personality, from my own family, and from my WWII front line photographer grandfather.
I’m married to the love of my life, who is my biggest cheerleader, and we live in Central Phoenix with our golden-doodle, Nash. I spent 12 years in education in various capacities from teacher to administrator and after a lot of blood, sweat, and tears I get to have my dream job(s), now with the launch of Life + Lens Blog I get to work with my lifelong friend.
Rachel on Lisa…
Lisa is a hard-working, go-getter who inspires and educates me on a regular basis. Lisa is a genuine, sincere, and incredibly supportive person; always looking for ways to lift others up. Lisa is also a talented, precise photographer with a gift for making her subjects feel comfortable and supported when they are in front of her lens. She is constantly learning and growing both in her personal and professional life – when she reaches a goal she immediately strives for a new one and generously shares with others what she learns along the way. I am honored to be working alongside Lisa on this project and also having a ton of fun in the process!
Hi there! My name is Rachel and I am the photographer behind [en]frame photography in Scottsdale, Arizona! Photography is a passion I discovered a bit later in life, but it developed from and is inspired by an interest I’ve always had in people and relationships and a long-time appreciation I’ve fostered for detail and “the little things.” As a mom with young children, I love photography for it’s ability to freeze precious, priceless moments in time. I also have a deep appreciation for photography as art and as a therapeutic tool and I love to photograph details, textures, shapes – beautiful things in our every day life that we sometimes take for granted.
My background is in clinical social work with children and families, but for the last several years I have happily put those skills to use at home with our two young sons while also working to grow my own fine art and lifestyle/event photography business here in Scottsdale.
When Lisa approached me with the idea for this blog, I was all in and so excited for the chance to work together on an idea we are both so passionate about. I love the idea of not only celebrating wonderful photography and photographers but also of celebrating families and special relationships of all kinds and being able to provide resources and inspiration to others.
Lisa on Rachel…
As a person, Rachel is the real deal, genuine and compassionate, honest and heartfelt. As an artist, Rachel has a photographic eye like I’ve never seen, especially for the abstract. She is a perfectionist; and puts as much heart into her work as she does into her life.
