“What should we wear for our photo session?” It’s probably the question photographers get asked the most. One trick we’ve learned over the years is to dress the most difficult person in the family or group first and plan the rest of the outfits accordingly. Often the children are the hardest to dress. Well, today’s Resourceful Wednesday post is here to help — Krystle of Sweet Juniper Photography shares her beautiful photography, tips, tricks, and resources for how to help style your littlest clients for their photo session.  Stay tuned because we asked you to tag your favorite Children’ Clothing Vendors on our Instagram and next week we’re sharing all your faves!

What to Wear for Family Photo Sessions – Children’s Clothing Edition.

Krystle of Sweet Juniper Photography:

When this family contacted me and told me that their girly girl daughter is a flower child at heart that loves the desert, I knew it was a shoot I definitely did not want to miss out on. I, myself, have also been known to go where the wind takes me. We had such a blast playing dress up in the amazing dresses by A Pocket Full of Sunshine Boutique (APOFSB.) It was an incredibly magical golden hour.

I have been working with APFOSB for a few months now. Clothing can really make or break your photo session. I come from a background of shooting weddings and engagements and one thing I started to notice in my engagement sessions was wardrobe. Most clients nail it but not everyone has the time to spend shopping and searching for the perfect outfit so when I decided to focus solely on family and child sessions I knew that assisting my families with wardrobe would be important. I really work with families on color coordination, style, location and over all feel they are hoping for in their session. We’re not just capturing images, we are making memories. APFOSB is a wonderful resource for the littles. Jamie, the shop owner, is wonderful. She always has amazing pieces for me to use in my sessions and they always make the difference, plus she’s affordable. Style and good prices all in one place? It’s a photographer’s and mother’s dream.

Often times I do add accessories in which I have just collected over time. Oversized scarves are great to wrap the littles up in or even to use for mom. I always bring a few extra accessories and props with me to each shoot for fun. Sometimes we use them and sometimes we don’t. I even been known to take the hat off my head and put it on my models. It’s all about reading your clients and the soaking in the whole moment to come away with amazing images for families to enjoy for a lifetime.
