We received this adorably inspired first birthday tea party session from the mama of one of the most stylish babies on instagram – @addisonjoyb! We knew right away we had to feature this gorgeous styled session and share this beautiful family’s story. We love that Addison’s mom, Sarah has also shared so many of the fabulous vendors they used for this session; we hope it brings you lots of inspiration!

What We Love:

Addison’s mom, Sarah, shares:

After many years of infertility and thinking that we may never be able to conceive, I became pregnant in August 2014. Addison was born healthy on April 13, 2014. As you can imagine, the first year of a baby’s life is filled with so many unique milestones and changes so we knew we had to capture the importance of our baby girl turning 1 through the expert photography of Alice Decker with Decker8 Creative Studio in Austin, TX.  After searching through birthday invitations and “themes” I landed on an idea for a tea party for Addi’s pictures. Being one, I noticed Addi loves her stuffed animals. In fact she has slept with her “friends” since 4 months. I knew they had to be at the photo shoot tea party. With the help of Alice, and her creative genius, we staged the tea party in the morning around 10:30 AM in Georgetown, TX under a large oak tree. Of course, it was the hottest day April had seen in Texas. With a toddler, you have to be quick to capture moments of shear joy and Alice did that so well. After sitting with her friends, and becoming increasingly curious about eating the donut cake tree, we decided to get some family shots of Addi walking with us. Five days before the shoot, Addi started walking on her own! We were mesmerized at the photo shoot at how she was walking without holding our hand. In one of the pictures my husband is scratching his head, like what do we do now? It was the perfect photo for this time. From there, we went to Grace Heritage Chapel in historic Georgetown, TX. I have always thought that little porch needs to be captured. Addi sat in a white rocking chair handmade and given to her by her great grandmother, Billy Burris. For this part of the shoot we wanted to capture Addison’s first taste of sugar by having her eat a sprinkled, iced doughnut. Honestly this turned out so well, because it wasn’t as intimidating as a big cake, and who doesn’t love a good doughnut? She was a sticky sugary mess but in the end it was just the perfect day, and the photos are ones we will cherish for years to come!

Rachel + Lisa:

Sarah, we have loved seeing Addison’s adorable photos and outfits that you share on instagram and we’re so honored that you’ve shared this session and your story with us. We love all of the perfectly handpicked details you and Alice chose for this first birthday tea party photo shoot and we think Alice did a fantastic job photographing both the “big picture” and all the special little details as well as giving a sense of Addison’s adorable personality. Addi’s “friends” are the perfect tea party companions and we love the beautiful settings of the oak tree and the quaint white porch of the church. The mint green in the cake stand, painting and Addi’s onesie is the perfect color for this styled shoot. And Addison is just SO, SO cute and looks likes her personality is even sweeter than those delicious sprinkled donuts! Happy 1st birthday, Addison!
